A German Shepherd in Long Neck, Delaware is being hailed a hero when she woke her owner up in the middle of the night after smelling gas. Five-year-old Greta started barking in the early hours of November 13 and wouldn’t stop, waking Ken Walsh up.
Ken was confused why Greta, who is usually the quietest of the family’s five dogs, wouldn’t settle down and so he got out of bed to investigate. The panicked dog led him to the kitchen, and that’s when he smelled the gas leak.
Ken, his wife, his 14-year-old son, and their five dogs and three cats were saved thanks to Greta. They believe one of the dogs accidentally turned on the propane stove while attempting to jump on the kitchen counter.
While they were fast asleep, the gas had already filled several rooms.
Many may not know this, but breathing in or swallowing propane can be harmful as it takes the place of oxygen in the lungs. This can make breathing difficult or even impossible.
Luckily, Greta had sensed the danger and ended up saving her owners’ lives and the other pets. Greta is a rescue dog and was taken in by the Walsh family after having behavioral issues.
“I rescued Greta knowing she was a great dog under her patchy past. She has come a long way. She’s a hero.”
He then took to Facebook to ask people to help shelter animals this Christmas season.
“They need love … If you are looking for a forever friend, take a look at your local shelter. I thank God for bringing her into my life.”
His social media plea garnered thousands of likes.
Greta has been well-rewarded for her heroism, Ken said. The family treated Greta to some well-deserved steak and sweet potatoes, and some delicious vanilla ice cream too.

Worried Dog Would Do Anything To Protect Owner Even From Medics
Nothing will stop this dog from protecting his owner
We all know the famous line, “Dogs are man’s best friend.” As it turns out, however, humans are definitely more than just a great pal for these four-legged pets.
One dog clearly proved that his owner is his everything from being his master to his best friend. Losing him would be unbearable for the broken-hearted dog that he would do anything to protect his human, even from the people who were trying to save him.
Shelter Pleads For Expert To Help Save Neglected Sheep With 90 Lbs Of Wool
Chris the Sheep was spotted carrying around 90 pounds of merino wool. Expert Ian Elkins, a four-time national shearing champion, took the job and set a Guinness Book Of World Records for his feat.
Walk into the National Museum of Australia and there you’ll see, displayed among Aboriginal paintings, tools and other artifacts that depict the country’s history, roughly 90 lbs. of wool.
The thick fleece “helps tell Australia’s pastoral story, and represents the important work the RSPCA has done in this country for all animals,” the National Museum of Australia wrote in a February 2016 Facebook post.
So… what’s a pile of wool doing in a national museum? Glad you asked....
Smart Dog Dresses As Toy Elephant Has Adorable Routine With Her Dad
Couple days before Halloween, and this tiny dog has already won the holiday.
A tiny dog dressed as an elephant is charming dog lovers with not only her costume but her adorable routine with her dad. With her big ears and trunk, Tammy the dog appeared at the Halloween costume contest in Florida.
She’s walking behind her human when she suddenly stops, lies down and refuses to walk any further. But it’s not a protest for having to wear the costume, it’s because she needs to be “wound back” up. Her human comes over and uses a “key” to wind her up so she can keep walking.
“This video is of Tammy the dog winning Halloween costume contest at a dog event here at a bar in Tampa called the Strut, Wag and Rock 2018. She is a wind-up elephant toy. She keeps ‘falling’ because she needs to be wound up to stay moving. At the end of the video, you can see her cute face!”...
